Christmas Closure & News /Blogs

First off I want to say thank you to all that has supported the classes over the past year & welcome to the new team members , this year has been as challenging as the last,
but it has been a good year, we have had success in the way of Black belt gradings & of course the British Champs.

October was the TAGB gradings & we had some solid performances with our Black stripes moving to Black belt, well done to – FREYA THOMAS, JOE GRINTER, BRADLEY THOMAS, TIAGO FARREIRA, HARRIET NICHOLS & PHEOBE FIDDLER.

In the Dan gradings we had our very own Instructor Menna Burmingham & Darcy Griffin , these girls have been training with me over 10 years now & they where excellent on the day. Menna is a former champion @ TKD Patterns & it showed, although she didn’t get best @ Grading she was definitely in the top 3.  Darcy started training with me in the Ninja kids program at the the age of 4 years & her skills continue to improved, Darcy was on point & she smashed her 2nd Degree belt!! well done girls !!!!

Dan Girls

After all the lockdowns & events cancelled we had the TAGB British champs, we are the biggest organisation in the UK & Europe, on the day there where over 1500 competitors.

We had some great results & performances.

In the Black belts Divisions we had brothers Zak & Joe Grinter, there is always questionable decisions, the boys fought well on the day with the judges going the other way, we live & learn to fight another day.

Darcy on back of her great grading performed her pattern on the day in a top field & then went onto to challenge the Cadet heavy weight girls in sparring, Darcy had a great fight & beat her first opponent, in the second fight Darcy fought a top fighter & narrowly lost, we also had Xantia Hobrough in the Heavy weight Cadets, Xantia had a tough match coming up short this time, but she will be back, she is a fierce competitor & time will show what she can bring to the matt.

In the colour belts we have in his first comp Mr Stez Hughes, Stez fought in the men’s heavy weight & had a great performance, winning his first 3 fights taking him into the semi finals, he just lost by one point on the day achieving 3rd place & took home the bronze.

Lastly we had Joe Bishop Joe is currently unbeaten in TKD comps he is now a Blue belt Middle weight & again showing his coolness Joe fought four hard fights, in the final it was tied & in the last seconds Joe flew in with a strong Jab to take the win & become British Champion.

WELL DONE ALL !!!

MR Schembri ( Head Instructor)

As a former competitor & team member I try like everyone else to stay fit & hopefully be a role model for my students, from TKD fighting I have kept competing in events, as many of you know I have been racing in endurance events such as Ironman triathlon’s, running events & cycling over the past years.
2022 was a good end to the year, as I went off to Spain to race Challenge Salou, it’s a half distance Ironman with 1.2k swim , 90k Bike & 13.1k Run.

A lot happened on & during the trip but I manged to get through it with a PB time of 5 hours, I also entered the Coventry half Marathon in September & came 16th in my age groups with over 400 runners.
As I said I am true believer in showing our team that we can still try at different levels & challenge ourselves no matter the test.

In 2022 I see us branching out with Junior Park runs, charity events & getting more students into TKD Competition.
If you are a parent that is interested in getting your child involved in comps or just improving their skills, we are here so please reach out !!!

Our New Instructor Menna Burmingham

Just recently Menna has started running the Barry TKD class along side me, she is currently attending Cardiff UNI & has excelled in her education.

Menna is a well established TKD competitor & has passed every grading @ A pass level.

She is & will be a great asset to JSTKD & look forward to her passing the knowledge on to all our team.
